Nothing is impossible. The word itself says, I'm possible" - Audrey Hepburn

Hello! Welcome to Deadra Clewell Counseling, LLC. Let me share a bit about the practice's history. I opened Deadra Clewell Counseling, LLC in February, 2020, mere days before the country-wide quarantine was put into effect for the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to opening the practice, I worked in just about every position one can, while working my way up the ladder in the field of psychology. I started as a Therapeutic Staff support before becoming a behavior specialist, then a mobile therapist in home-based services. I worked as a special needs coordinator in a local school, and as a caseworker in General Protective Services of a county Children and Youth Program. I worked several years as a therapist at the State Hospital until it closed and then worked as a therapist in an Extended Acute Program of a local hospital. I worked several different positions at KidsPeace within the residential and hospital programs. I also worked as a site director and later, a regional director of an outpatient clinic and have also taken several outpatient therapist positions along the way. Oh! And did I mention I am also a veteran of the US Army, having served 8 years in the Army Reserve? What an experience that was! Throughout all of those positions spanning 20 plus years, I was able to work with individuals across all walks of life and in multiple environments. I learned that I really didn't like what I saw. Clients seeking help were often treated like numbers. They were offered sterile white walls and plastic uncomfortable chairs in offices where they were forced to sit on opposite sides of a big desk from the therapist, causing the environment to feel more like an interrogation than a therapy session. To add insult to injury, they also endured rapid turnaround of staff, causing them to repeat their life stories, often traumatic, over and over to each new face. Staff were often overloaded with cases for minimal pay, causing burnout and less ability to actually be present for their clients. I wanted to do better. So I created my solo practice and have now grown to a group practice with several skilled staff. We have soft lit rooms, comfortable couches and cushioned chairs. We offer a variety of snacks and beverages to all clients as it is very difficult to focus on treatment when your belly is growling or your mouth is dry. I hope you find your experiences with Deadra Clewell Counseling, LLC to be a comfortable, nurturing space that allows you to feel better able to engage in the treatments offered.
