Across more than 25 years in the field, one theme became clear to Dr. Clewell: too often, clients were treated like numbers rather than people. Therapy frequently took place in sterile, uncomfortable settings. Clients were asked to retell painful stories repeatedly due to staff turnover. Clinicians were overextended and under-supported, making it difficult to offer the presence and care clients deserved.

Deadra Clewell Counseling, LLC was created as a direct response to that system.

Today, the practice operates as a thoughtfully structured group practice grounded in dignity, continuity, and clinical integrity. Each clinician is carefully selected and directly supervised by Dr. Clewell to ensure consistency, quality, and coordinated care. Clients benefit from a collaborative clinical team while knowing that oversight, guidance, and accountability remain central to their treatment experience. The therapeutic environment is designed to feel safe, welcoming, and calm. Sessions take place in softly lit rooms with comfortable seating, not across imposing desks. Clients are welcome to enjoy snacks and beverages provided by Deadra Clewell Counseling, LLC—or brought from home—during sessions, because basic comfort matters when doing meaningful emotional work. For those who choose in-person services, you may also notice the gentle presence of Nova, the practice’s therapy dog-in-training. Her role is always optional and client-centered, and many clients find her calming presence enhances their sense of grounding and ease. More information about Nova is available on her profile page.At Deadra Clewell Counseling, therapy is not rushed, transactional, or impersonal. It is intentional, relational, and designed to support real change. Whether you are seeking clarity, stability, healing, or growth, our goal is to offer a space where you feel respected, supported, and genuinely cared for—every step of the way.

We believe meaningful therapy requires time, presence, and flexibility. While we accept several commercial insurance plans, many clients choose to self-pay in order to access care that is less constrained by insurance limitations and more responsive to their individual needs. This model allows for thoughtful pacing, continuity, and a therapeutic experience centered on quality rather than quotas.

Welcome to Deadra Clewell Counseling, LLC—a practice intentionally built to offer therapy that is human, respectful, and deeply individualized.

The practice was founded initially as a sole proprietorship in February 2020, just days before the nationwide COVID-19 shutdown. While the timing was unexpected, the mission behind the practice had been forming for decades.

Before opening Deadra Clewell Counseling, LLC, Dr. Clewell worked in nearly every level of the mental health system. Her career began as a Therapeutic Staff Support and progressed through roles including behavior specialist, mobile therapist, school-based special needs coordinator, county child welfare caseworker, inpatient and state hospital therapist, extended-acute care clinician, residential and hospital program therapist, outpatient clinic site director, and multi-clinic regional director. She also brings the perspective of an eight-year U.S. Army Reserve veteran.
